Elizabeth Ashley appears as Amanda Wingfield in the Hartford Stage production of The Glass Menagerie. Her extensive Broadway credits include Take Her, She's Mine (Tony Award) opposite Art Carney, Barefoot in the Park (Tony nomination) opposite Robert Redford, The Skin of Our Teeth, Legend, Hide and Seek, Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra with Rex Harrison; Agnes of God with Geraldine Page, and most recently, Gore Vidal's The Best Man. Her work in film and television includes Ship of Fools, The Carpetbaggers, Rancho Deluxe, Happiness, and five seasons on CBS's Evening Shade (Emmy nomination). She is perhaps best known as one of the definitive interpreters of Tennessee Williams's plays. Ms. Ashley has appeared in the Broadway revivals of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Tony nomination) and Suddenly Last Summer. She also starred in the New York premiere of Williams's The Red Devil Battery Sign, directed by Mr. Wilson. Her other Williams roles include The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore (off-Broadway with Amanda Plummer and Marian Seldes) and Sweet Bird of Youth (The Shakespeare Theatre, Washington, DC). Other off-Broadway, national, and regional work includes Red Devil Battery Sign, The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore, Out Cry, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Perfect Party, The Enchanted, Master Class,Vanities, A Coupla White Chicks, Full Gallop, and Eleemosynary (directed by Burt Reynolds).
